映画「アポロ13」のセリフ「Houston We've had a Problem.」の日常での使い方
こんにちは、今回は映画のセリフについてお話しします。
英語には、映画や本、詩などから日常的に使われるようになったフレーズがたくさんあります。
あまりに数が多いので、今回は私がよく使っているフレーズを一つご紹介します。
“Houston, we have a problem.”（ヒューストン、問題が発生した）
これは1970年代の宇宙ミッションを題材にした映画『アポロ13』に出てくるセリフです。
作中で酸素タンクが爆発するというトラブルが描かれています。
実際の通信では “Houston, we’ve had a problem here.”ですが、映画ではより劇的な効果を狙って短縮されています。
現在ではこのフレーズはもっと軽い意味で使われています。
ちょっとした問題のときに使われることが多く、本当に深刻な問題のときには、もう少し派手な表現(ここでは詳しく触れませんが) が使われます。

“Houston, we have a problem—my computer just crashed before I saved the report.”
(ヒューストン、問題が発生した——レポートを保存する前にパソコンがクラッシュした。)
[友達同士で]

(ヒューストン、問題が発生した。ピザがもう残ってない。)
[ITやゲーム中に]
“Houston, we have a problem. I broke the code and now nothing works.”
(ヒューストン、問題が発生した。コードを壊してしまって、全部動かなくなった。)
[子育て中に]
“Houston, we have a problem—my toddler just found the permanent markers.”
(ヒューストン、問題が発生した——うちの子が油性マーカーを見つけてしまった。)

名台詞は他にもたくさんあって、語り始めたら一日中でも話していられますが、いくつか思い浮かぶものをご紹介します。

“We’re going to need a bigger boat.”（もっと大きな船が必要だ）
捕まえようとしている巨大なサメを目の当たりにした船長がクルーに向かって言うセリフです。
現在では、タスクを完了するために必要なリソースや人員がないことを示すために使われます。

(ゲストが50人いるのに椅子が20脚しかない。もっと大きな船が必要だね。)
『リーサル・ウェポン』より
“I’m too old for this.”（これをするには歳をとりすぎている）
ハードなアクションシーンの後によく登場するセリフで、日常でも単に状況に満足していないときに使われます。

(10時までに3回も会議。こんなのもう無理。)
『ア・フュー・グッドメン』より
“You can’t handle the truth!”（君には真実を受け止められない！）
若手弁護士と傲慢な軍人将軍との間で交わされる劇的な法廷シーンからのセリフです。
最近ではそれほど緊急性のない問題に使用されます。

“You can’t handle the truth!”
(君には真実を受け止められない！)

Houston We've had a Problem.
Hello everyone, today we are going to talk about quotes from movies. There are many commonly used phrases in English that have crossed over from movies, books, poems, and more. There are so many to choose from so I’ve picked one that I use on a regular basis.
“Houston, we have a problem” This comes from the Movie “Apollo 13” which is based on a 1970’s space mission in which an oxygen tank explodes aboard a spacecraft. The actual quote is “Houston, we’ve had a problem here.” but it was shortened for more dramatic effect in the movie.
Nowadays we use it in a much more lighthearted way. We tend to use it for smaller issues and save slightly more colourful language (won’t be mentioning that here) when we have a real problem.

After seeing the size of the shark they are trying to catch, the skipper says this to his crew. Basically used nowadays to say that we don’t have the resources or manpower necessary to complete a task.

“Lethal Weapon”
“I’m too old for this”
Used constantly throughout the movie, usually at the end of some very fast paced action scenes. Used in everyday life when we are just simply not happy with a situation .

“ A Few Good Men”
“You can’t handle the truth!”
Used in a dramatic court scene between a young lawyer and an extremely arrogant army general. Nowadays used for slightly less pressing issues.
