Hello there everyone,
Today will be the first of a new line of blogs I’ll be writing monthly. If you have seen me in recent years and noticed the ever increasing size of my trademark white t-shirts you’ll probably have guessed that I love eating out! The main three places you’ll find me out and about stuffing my face in Fukuoka are Nishijin with my family, Daimyo with friends, and on the odd occasion around Yakuin or Sumiyoshi. That being said, I will go far and wide for anything spicy. I’m a total spice addict and the more authentic the better. While I do go out for Japanese from time to time, due to my addiction I almost always end up in Thai, Chinese (especially Seschuan) and Indian restaurants.
So without further ado, it is my pleasure to recommend what I think is the best Thai place in the city and that is ドゥワンディー in Yakuin Odori. I was first taken here by my esteemed business partner Mr Tim Mastoris for a quick lunch and it has been a regular spot of mine ever since. I mostly go there in the evenings now and I have to say not only is it one of my favourite Thai places but also one of my most regular places to go out for dinner in Fukuoka and here’s why.
First of all, I haven’t tried anything there that isn’t simply delicious. There don’t seem to be any weak points on the menu whatsoever and I think I’ve had a go at almost everything by now! Secondly, the price. It’s relatively cheap to be honest. I’m always pleasantly surprised when I get the bill! Lastly, the service. The owner is a Japanese lady with a Thai husband, she is always very welcoming, makes good recommendations and is very chatty with me and my kids. We’ve been going there so long that she’s basically seen them grow up! All in all a pretty winning combination don’t you think?
Menu Favourites
Laarb . (very fresh flavoured and spicy minced lamb salad)
Red Curry ( spicy coconut based curry with Jasmine rice)
Chicken Satay Skewers (Creamy and nutty skewered chicken with chilli oil)
White fish in Chilli and Lemongrass Coating (my absolute favourite, I nearly cry with joy when I devour this!)
Prawn Spring Rolls
There is so much to choose from there and all of it is great. So if you are looking for a break from the usual Fukuoka fare, why not branch out a bit and give it a try. I know many of my students seem to have an aversion to coriander (can’t imagine why to be honest) but the staff always ask if you want coriander or not so you can enjoy your food in relative safety!

今回から毎月新しいブログシリーズを始めます。最近の私を見かけたことがある方は、どんどんサイズが大きくなっていくトレードマークの白Tシャツにお気づきかもしれません。そう、私は外食が大好きなんです！
福岡で私がよく食べ歩いている場所は主にこの3つ：家族と行く西新、友人と行く大名、そして時々行く薬院や住吉あたり。とはいえ、辛いもののためならどこへでも行きます。私は完全にスパイス中毒で、本格的であればあるほど嬉しいタイプです。たまに和食も食べますが、だいたいタイ料理・中華（特に四川）・インド料理に行き着きます。
さて、前置きはこのくらいにして、今回は私が福岡で一番おすすめしたいタイ料理店「ドゥワンディー」をご紹介します。場所は薬院大通。初めてここに連れて行ってくれたのは、尊敬するビジネスパートナーのティム・マストリス氏。ランチで訪れたのがきっかけで、それ以来すっかり常連になりました。ここは私のお気に入りのタイ料理店というだけでなく、福岡で一番よく行くディナーのお店でもあります。その理由をご紹介しましょう。
まず第一に、ここで食べた料理で美味しくなかったものがひとつもありません。メニューにハズレがなく、たぶんほぼ全部試したんじゃないかと思います。第二に、値段です。正直、かなりリーズナブルで、毎回お会計のときに嬉しい驚きがあります。最後に、接客です。オーナーは日本人の女性で、タイ人のご主人と一緒にお店をされています。いつも温かく迎えてくれて、料理のおすすめもしてくれるし、私や子どもたちとよく話してくれます。長年通っているので、うちの子どもたちの成長も見守ってくれているような感じです。これって、最高の組み合わせじゃないですか？
お気に入りメニュー
ラープ（とてもフレッシュでスパイシーなラム肉のひき肉サラダ）
レッドカレー（ジャスミンライス付きのスパイシーなココナッツベースのカレー）
チキンサテの串焼き（クリーミーでナッツ風味の串焼きチリオイルがけ）
白身魚のチリ＆レモングラスがけ（これは本当に最高！食べるたびに嬉しさで涙が出そうになります）
エビの春巻き
ここは本当にメニューが豊富で、どれも美味しいです。もし福岡でいつもの料理にちょっと飽きてきたなら、ぜひ一度足を伸ばしてみてください。
生徒さんの中にはパクチーが苦手な方も多いようですが（正直なところ、なぜ嫌いなのか私にはわかりません）、スタッフが必ず「パクチー入れますか？」と聞いてくれるので安心して楽しめます！
