六本松「十一（といち）」【英語でコスパとは？】

Hello everyone,
Today we are continuing to expose to the world all my secret food spots in Fukuoka City! Last time round was my favourite Thai place that I love to go to with family or friends and hopefully will be included on the list of places we get to go together when Kensington Foodies finally gets together.
Today though, is a place I usually keep all to myself since it’s tiny and I don’t want it getting too popular!
Where we are headed today is Toichi in Ropponmatsu, only about 2 mins from the school. Basically it serves just two main dishes, pork steak or beef steak sets with a portion of rice and either takana or shiso topping, miso soup, and a nice fresh citrusy salad with chunks of pineapple. Yum! The speed of the service is amazing. It takes minutes to prepare and a huge portion of perfectly cooked meat is served sizzling on a hot pan on top of a bed of onions, with a variety of toppings to add to the flavour. I can literally hear it cooking as I write. It is a decent sized meal too so make sure you go on an empty stomach. Hearty would be the way, I’d describe it.
On top of all that deliciousness. Toichi, is not an expensive place to eat. That fantastic set is only 1,100 yen and if you are a big strong boy like me and sometimes need a little extra, rice and soup refills are free and you can add extra portions of meat too.
Since we are on the subject of costs, I have noticed that a lot of Japanese learners use the term “cost performance” to describe almost everything and while we do use it in certain situations like for example when you buy some form of tech or machinery at a good price and it works very well or is durable, we wouldn’t really use it to describe an inexpensive restaurant.
Here are some options.
Affordable → overall good price for what you get
“It’s a small, affordable ramen shop.”
Reasonably priced → fair for the quality
“The set lunch is reasonably priced at around 1,000 yen.”
Budget-friendly → informal, friendly tone
“It’s a budget-friendly place for students.”
Inexpensive → simple and neutral
“The food is inexpensive but tasty.”
So there you have it, my secret is out. If you are ever in Ropponmatsu and looking for a tasty, filling, well priced meal, Toichi is the place to go.

今日は、福岡市内にある私の「秘密のグルメスポット」をまた一つご紹介します！
前回は、家族や友達とよく行くお気に入りのタイ料理のお店をご紹介しました。
Kensington Foodiesにご参加いただけたら、きっとこのお店も候補に入るんじゃないかなと思っています。
でも今回ご紹介するのは、実は普段はあまり人に教えないお店。とても小さくて、あまり人気が出すぎると困るので、ずっと自分だけの秘密にしてきたんです。
今日向かうのは、六本松にある「十一（といち）」。
ケンジントン英会話六本松校から歩いてたったの2分くらいの距離です。
メニューは基本的に2つだけ。ポークステーキ定食かビーフステーキ定食！
ライスに高菜かしそが選べるトッピング、味噌汁、そしてパイナップルがゴロッと入った爽やかなサラダが付いてきます。最高！
そして特筆すべきは、そのスピード感。
ほんの数分で、ジュウジュウ音を立てながら鉄板の上に乗った大きな肉が玉ねぎと一緒に出てきます。
トッピングで味を変えながら楽しめるのも魅力です。書いている今も、耳の奥であの「ジュワ〜」という音が聞こえてくる気がします。
ボリュームもたっぷりなので、お腹を空かせて行くのがおすすめです。まさに「がっつり系」といった感じ。
さらに嬉しいのは、そのお値段。なんとこの満足セットが1,100円！
しかも、私のように「もう少し欲しい」と思う大食いさんには嬉しいサービスもあります。
ご飯とお味噌汁のおかわりは無料、さらにお肉を追加することもできるんです。
さて、ここでちょっと話題を変えて「コストパフォーマンス」という言葉について。
日本の英語学習者さんがよく使う表現ですが、実は英語ではあまり飲食店の説明には使いません。
もちろん、機械やガジェットを「安く買えて性能もいい！」みたいな場面では使いますが、レストランについては別の表現を使うのが自然です。
いくつか例を挙げると：
Affordable（手頃な価格）
“It’s a small, affordable ramen shop.”
「小さな手頃な値段のラーメン屋です。」Reasonably priced（質に対して妥当な価格）
“The set lunch is reasonably priced at around 1,000 yen.”
「ランチセットは1,000円前後で妥当な価格です。」Budget-friendly（財布に優しい値段）
“It’s a budget-friendly place for students.”
「学生に優しいお財布にやさしいお店です。」Inexpensive（シンプルに、安い）
“The food is inexpensive but tasty.”
「料理は安いけど美味しいです。」
というわけで、秘密を一つ明かしてしまいました。
もし六本松に来て、「美味しくてボリュームがあって、しかもお得！」なお店を探しているなら、「十一（といち）」がおすすめです。
